Fifth Grade Promotion

What is Fifth Grade Promotion?

If your current fifth grader is your oldest child, then you might be wondering what all this Fifth Grade Promotion talk is all about! First, let's call it FGP for short.

  • FGP is a day-long event that celebrates your student’s time at Sanders Corner. The morning kicks off with a breakfast for fifth grade parents and guests.

  • While you’re enjoying breakfast, the whole school gathers in the hallways to applaud the fifth grade class as they make their way to the multi-purpose room. This is called the "clap out," and it's a wonderful tradition at Sanders Corner.

  • It's customary that the fifth graders dress up for the ceremony. The boys typically wear khakis and nice shirts, but some will wear suit jackets and some will wear shorts. The girls typically wear dresses, skirts, or dressy pants. It's important to remember that the school dress code still applies.

  • The fifth graders enter the multi-purpose room and take their seats. During the promotion ceremony students are recognized for their academic achievements, have their picture taken with Mr. Jacques, and are congratulated by their teachers. We also present scholarships to Sanders Corner alumni who are now graduating from Stone Bridge. The students also perform a few songs.

  • When the ceremony concludes, the fifth graders are released back to their classrooms to change into casual clothes, have lunch, sign yearbooks, and so on.

  • That’s when the real fun begins! The whole afternoon is a carnival-like party in the multi-purpose room. The students create mementos in the photo booth, dance the day away with friends, chillax with their friends or play games planned by the committee. It’s the perfect kick-off for summer vacation and a memorable send off from Sanders Corner.

In addition to the end of school activities, FGP also includes a class gift to the school and a gift to our fifth grade students. All of these events would not be possible without donations from fifth grade parents, many volunteers, and help from the Sanders Corner community.
